Before buying any boat, get to know what you want, the type size, age, what is your budget. Ask if the boat has been damage free or has had previous repairs. Find out the boat’s history; has it been used for racing and has it been used in salt water? Ask questions about the boat’s equipment or extras, any recent painting and who did it. And do not be shy to ask why the boat is being sold.
Like cars, boats with a good brand name carry an expensive price. Understand that when you buy a boat you may have to be transport it back to where you want to moor it. If there is no water way you will have to transport it across land. The cost of transporting can vary from $500-$1000 depending on the size of the boat.
Once you get your boat at the marina, there are operating costs. The annual costs of membership, mooring, storage or launching at most marinas can range from $2000-$4000 a year and there definitely will be more extras to pays for parking, restaurant bills and initiation fees. Do not forget that used motor yachts also need to have insurance which can average $300-$500 a year.
When you look at used motor yachts, do not be quick to make judgment. Sometimes the problem may be simple to fix and a lot cheaper than buying another vessel. If you have done your homework wall and understand boats, then you will know what the prices are for repair. The best thing is to ensure that you find out about all the problems beforehand and this way there will be no surprises. Always get a surveyor to look at a used boat and have written report.
Finally always have a statement written in the agreement mentioning that the used yacht sales will be accepted only after a trial at sea for a few hours.
